Because you ARE a representative democracy. As you clearly don't want to hear the truth, my answer stops there.

The first one I remember using the term Democracy to describe the USA was Richard Nixon. I learned later that this was a Representative Republic. Whatever we call it, it's better than the socialists want to tell us.

A republic is a representative Democracy.

I don't know where the idea came from that we are a republic and not a democracy, but I suspect someone somewhere was a Republican trying to discredit the Democratic Party. (Republicans aren't even able to SAY 'The Democratic Party'!)

The words 'republic' and 'democracy' mean just about the same thing. Rule by the people. Popular sovereignty. We are not a 'pure democracy' where everyone votes on every issue (thank goodness!) Instead we elect people to represent us--a 'representative democracy'. We are also a republic, which means 'not a monarchy but rule by the people'.

The 'public' in Republic is Latin for 'The People'.

The 'demo' in Democracy is from 'demos', Greek for 'The People'.
