No. But if the cat stops using the litter pan, then you need the cat checked for possible UTI by your vet quickly. Did you change litter? Is the box too small?

All of the first responses are interesting scenarios. I'd like to hear more from other people. Mine once he became an indoor-outdoor cat quit using the litter box. He doesn't mess inside the house so he does all his business outside. So I wonder what would happen if, for example, we went on vacation for a few days and decided to leave the cat inside if he'd revert back to the litter box or would he have forgotten it and just go anywhere as he surely does outdoors. Has anyone dealt with a similar scenario?

I once bought a scented litter, and they were both like "nope" and would not use it. I switched to unscented pretty fast.

YES - "THOMAS" had a heart attack in the middle of the hallway and was unable to get to the litter dish.
YES - "MARMY" had ureter crystal pain so intense that he just laid in a corner and piddled all over himself.
YES - "COLE" was new from the shelter and had not been neutered; he sprayed all over the brand new $2,000.00 couch I'd just bought.

One of my many cats, Mommycat, did that many years ago. Turned out she had colon cancer, and despite treatment, left us 13 months later

Yes, when my wife first moved in and refused to allow them to go out, as they had been doing for years. Just got that under control when my first was born, who happened to be extremely allergic to them. Problem solved.

Typically when a cat stops using the litter box, its a sign of health issues. The cat should go to the vet.
