hearing things that aren t there?
For years and years, I ve heard my name called, doors opening and closing, knocking, and indistinct mumbling seeming to come from elsewhere in my house or whatever room I m in. I ll think someone is calling me or playing music when I m home alone. It doesn t happen all the time, but far more frequently than anyone I know.
It only gets worse when I m stressed. I ll hear someone scream my name before falling asleep and once, even just a blood-curdling scream.
I never thought i was hallucinating, because it always seems so real and so far off. The sounds are never bizarre. Just mundane noises that aren t really there.
What could this be? Am I overreacting?

Many people 'hear voices' and experience other auditory hallucinations as a result of stress or lack of sleep. There are medications that can help but the side effects are awful - severe weight gain, rigid muscles, dry mouth, slurred speech, extreme tiredness, reduced cognitive function.... the list goes on. It's best to find a good therapist to learn coping techniques to live with the noises you hear. Mindfulness meditation really helps as you learn to distract your mind from the noises.
The noises you hear just before sleep are different and are known as hypnagogic hallucinations. It's a common sleep disorder and nothing to worry about.
I have a psychotic illness and started to hallucinate at the age of 6 and hear voices at the age of 12. You're not psychotic; if you were wondering.

I think you should definitely visit a doctor. You may have a mental it neurological disorder. Either way, it's not going to go away on its own.

Maybe you arent hearing things. You should get someone to spend the night with you and see if they hear the same things. Not trying to frighten you but Ghost arent real. Theres only angles and demons on this earth.. And if its scaring you on purpose i doubt it's an angel.. psychologist and psychiatrist will always tell you you're crazy when it comes to these things because they've been taught to do so. I say if you believe in Jesus Christ you need to pray and if you dont i suggest getting to know him.
