Whats the word for the limiting factor that causes calls to be dropped and data rates to go down in densely populated areas?

When you use your cell phone in a densely populated area and the data speeds go way down. What causes this? Specifically I am looking for the word for the thing that is limited that causes you to lose data speed in densely populated areas

Update:

Is it throughput, bandwidth or spectrum? What are you running out of that causes calls to be dropped and data rates to go down?

The word you're looking for is bandwidth.

Bandwidth. Every cell tower can only handle a specific number of users.

No different than when one is taking a shower and someone flushes the toilet and water pressure drops on the shower.
