The article doesn't say the couples were same-sex and were whipped for "having gay sex". It says they were unmarried, and in some cases weren't even having sex, just "behaving amorously" in public.
No, I am glad we don't have such "laws" in the U.S. And it's not "law" in Indonesia either; it's a religious thing, not an enforced law.

I don't think gay sex should be illegal but I think the United States should use corporal punishment.
