how can I prove I am not in need of adult protective services? someone who has been harassing me reported me as such?

    It has to be proven you are incompetent. You don't have to prove anything unless they can first convince authorities that you are incompetent which is fairly difficult.

    The social workers can't make that decision on their own. If you object, they have to petition the court for an order.

    I'm not 100 percent sure of my answer, so maybe someone else can tell us if I'm right or wrong.

    I don't think adult protective services has any real legal power. It's not like when they deal with children. I think all they can do is check up on you and offer you advice. I don't think you even have to talk to them.

    The simplest thing to do is to let them in, answer their stupid question, and then let them leave.

    You're not the first. Let the proper authorities know and document any and all interactions. And avoid at all possible opportunities.
