if you are on PC, you could switch to using Firefox or Chrome as primary browser (not sure about other browsers like Opera and Safari).. these browsers allow free add-ons that do what you ask..

after downloading Firefox (for example) you go to the add-on page and search for "ad blockers".. choose the highly recommend ones.. they do the job well and they are free..

some ad blockers may need manual removal of ads that requires you to point at an ad and right click to block the ad completely..

if you are using Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer, you may not find such a thing.. the old Internet Explorer had "add-on" features that probably had an ad-blocker, but their add-on page is largely neglected with nothing substantial to offer..

    all the best..

I use ABP (ad blocker plus). It's a free easy to download program that is very effective at blocking ads. I can't imagine surfing the internet without it.

P.S. - I have some sympathy for businesses who depend on advertising revenue but the fact is that advertising is WAY overdone and I believe that constant advertising everywhere is really unhealthy to our culture as a whole and so because advertisers can't keep it to a reasonable level I don't feel bad shutting them out altogether.
