Why do employers ask you what did you do at your current job if it is listed in your resume?

I mean i just got asked what I did as a courtesy clerk at Kroger for a job I left more than a year ago and why I left. The answers to those 2 questions should be obvious.

    A resume can't list everything - there isn't room.

    They want to hear it in your own words. They know many resumes are professional written.

    You can be more in depth about what was done. Many people only list their job title or two or three of their duties when in reality the duties they did covered a much wider range.
