if you're moving with someone and all you have to do is book a flight you're good

That would be pretty tight. You need a U Haul, and first and last months rent. Those three things may push ya over $5,000.

In total, from California to Colorado, it cost my husband and I around $6,000. That was for EVERY LITTLE THING, though; truck rental, hotel overnight, apartment deposit and application fees, gas, food on the road, setting up all the bills, getting our licenses changed over, extra costs incurred when my husband was out of work for 3 weeks, newer items needed for the apartment itself, all that.
It really depends on how much stuff you have and how long the drive will be. It would have cost us more if we had moved farther away. California to Arizona? Maybe not as much. California to Florida? Yeah, you're spending a lot more.

Maybe ....if you don’t have a lot of belongings and are moving into someone else’s existing household.
If this is a solo endeavor, probably not.
