Who won the most recent election again?

When we entered, the GOP controlled both houses. I forgot what happened after.

Follow up question: which was the house that the entire nation voted on? That one seems more relevant for 2020

Follow up question: when you win the most recent election, is that a) a good sign, or b) a bad sign?

I hope you are in grade school, other wise I hope you never get to vote. In 2019 we vote as a people for both houses of congress. We are in the midst of a great civil war, testing whether this nation, so conceived, and so dedicated can long endure, and a DNC victory will say NO. Yet, those who hold to the founders, still have mr. Jefferson's last resort and the means to carry it out.

The Democrats won the 2018 election. They took back the House of Representatives, one something like half a dozen governorships and flipped a similar number of State legislatures. Republicans will off of .2 the Senate as evidence of some Republican gains. It's true that the Republicans picked up two seats in the Senate. However come a closer look shows that this isn't as great as they I seem to think. First off, the map in 2018 was ridiculously favorable to Republicans with Democrats defending two-thirds of the seats up for election and 10 of those Democrats being in states which Trump won. Given these fact it's actually something of a poor performance for the Republicans to only gain two seats. The other fact that muddies the Senate results is that Democrats got 10 million more votes for Senate than Republicans did. This underscores the idea that the result was not because of the people preferring Republicans but rather because the map happened to favor them. You paragraph now, it's always good to win elections rather than lose them. But the outcome of the election does not necessarily have anything to say about the next election. Remember that Republicans won Landslide victories in both 2010 and 1994. This did not stop Barack Obama and Bill Clinton from going on to win re-election two years later. New Powerpuff so the fact that Democrats won the 2018 election does not necessarily mean that they will win the 2020 election.

That being said I think it's a good sign for Democrats that they did win. Of course the opposition party almost always gain seats in the midterm election. That's just how things work. But the Democrats gained a whole lot of seats. Republicans saw their worst performance since 1974 when the party was linked to Watergate, the greatest scandal in American history. It's worth pointing out that 2 years after getting trounced in the 1974 midterms Republicans also lost the White House. I think the Democrats can also take heart from the strong voter turnout. Turnout was exceptionally high in the 2018 midterms. I believe it was something like 80% or 90% of the 2016 presidential race turnout. The fact that turnout was so high and Democrats beat Republicans by millions of votes in both Chambers seems to suggest that Americans, overall, prefer Democrats and Democrats will do well in the next election.

From US history, if the Repubs keep the presidency, they will lose more in Congress. IF the Democrats win the presidency, then two years later the house and Senate will be under Republican control.

That is how the US actually works. Unless one side purposefully angers moderates like me (which the democrats seem to be intent on doing), the US does not like one party holding all of the power.

BTW, The Democrats lost more seats in Obama's first midterm election. Obama was a more popular president and lost more seats than Trump. That is a pretty clear sign that you leftists are angering the moderates.

and what have they done with it?

Poor Donnie thinking the Mueller report was actually going to help him. Like a fool, he shouted, "I won, no collusion, no obstruction." Then his already low approval number dropped 5 points in 3 days to an all-time low of 39 percent. Republicans are facing some tough races, this time in the Senate. They are toast. Trump created one-party rule in America after 2020. Democrats.

There is no house that the entire nation votes on. We vote for our representatives state by state. The 2018 elections were for the entire house of representatives, 1/3 of the Senate, and various state races.

In 2016, Trump won the prrsidency and the GOP maintained control of the House and Senate. In 2018, the democrats took control of the House.
