What would be a good way to ask if someone knows something?

My friend is wanting to ask a person if they know that an item happened in the past hoping that it might help them now but she is unsure how to ask the question.

Update:

She just wants to know if the person was ever told about an item. She wants to know if Bob know that Fred borrowed pop from Linda but Linda would never take pop back in return if that makes sense (I am not talking about pop but it was the fastest way to explain it)

Is it about a sexual history? A cheating issue?

edited to add: Ok, I think Bob should either go to Linda or Fred to ask if Fred ever borrowed a pop from Linda.

Example: "Hey Linda! I'm curious, did Fred ever happen to borrow a pop from you?"

You need to provide more details but really is it that difficult that you just can't flat out ask?

There is literally not enough info here to answer this question.. So here's my best shot... Just straight up ask them...what's the big deal.
