I do the 'first treat pilled' and the second not method - to focus their attention on the next treat .... that supposes your dog is one that can be tempted by treats. Actually one of mine I can just open his mouth and lob the pill in. With the other, who has a 'tight mouth', I press the tablet into either a cheese, or ham flat and she takes that because she wants the second treat I have!! Some pills are actually made to appeal to dogs, in which case I simply put it in their food and it vanishes.

I don't look on pilling my two, as a trick btw.

I put it in a piece of meat and make him work for it and when he gets it, he just eats it with no question. Good luck.

Put the pill inside a moist brownie and give it to the dog.

If you can hide the pill in a piece of cheese or bread that normally does the trick.

No tricks, thumb & fore finger of left hand grabs snout just behind the canine teeth, pulling head back, lower jaw drops & pills are dropped at the back of the throat.

one on of my dogs she just eats anything I give her. She chews up the pills, Tramadol is very nasty for a dog so I put it down her throat so she doesn't taste it. Pilling an animal is usually easy for me but there are always exceptions.

If I can get away with hiding it in a piece or meat or a cube of cheddar cheese then I'll go that route. Otherwise it's the more hands on method but I try to avoid that method for my own dog as it stresses her out too much.

Dip it in butter and gently place it in back of dog's mouth. While you are doing that in the other hand you are holding up a Schmacko, so they swallow that little pill down rather quickly so they are ready to relieve you of the Schmacko. Dogs tend to only like paying attention to one thing at a time; food rewards work wonders.

If you dog is really so aggressive not to let you put anything in his mouth then you are going to have to crush it up and put it in some food (not a lot so you cannot tell if he has eaten it). Something he likes to eat should work, like a gravy mix etc.

My dog has daily medication that needs to be taken with food.

I put it in his dinner and there is never a problem.

Insert pill with your finger far back in the mouth. Gently close the dogs mouth and hold it's muzzle shut. Rub the underneath of it's throat. The pill is swallowed immediately if it's place far enough back in the throat to begin with. There's really no trick to it. Over the decades, I've had many dog's that have had to take medication daily for years, whether it be for urinary incontinence with a spayed b*tch, medication for hip dysplasia, or with one of my dogs who took meds every 12 hours for Idiopathic Epilepsy. My current senior dog isn't on any medication, and this is the first time in many, many years that I haven't had to pop pills into my dogs for one thing or another.
