Form "b" is normal in Britain, but so is "Will you lend me a hand?" Note, not "lend me YOUR hand".

Both forms mean "Will you please help me a little".

    |Indeed the normal start of that request might be "Could you....."

    I would say:

Could you lend me a hand?

    or

Could you give me a hand?

you can say either lend me a hand or give me a hand. Usually, if I ask for help in that way, I ask for someone to give me a hand, but I might offer help by saying that I will lend a hand. But really, the lend or give are more a choice by region or upbringing than anything important.

Can you give me a hand? I know it should be "will you give" but we tend to request things using "can" or "could", because it leaves the option in the hands of the person being asked. It is more polite. "Could you give me a hand, please, this thing is way heavier than it looks"
