Question for Attorneys : Do you prefer a client call you Mr./Ms.Smith (your last name) or by your first name? Or Sir/ Mam?

It's my first time looking for an attorney, and I don't know what the preference would be. I know everyone is different , but for an initial consultation , how would I address him or her?

You are the CLIENT, call him or her by their first name. Worry about what you call the judge, not your attorney.

When you meet him or her, introduce yourself and pay attention to how the attorney responds. If he says "I'm Mr. Smith" or "I'm Dave" address him that way.

Always go formal until it is explained it's unnecessary to continue.
