do u think I was wrong for not offering gas ⛽️?
so We work for the state and we have mandatory trainings to out of the city so we all have to car pull together as coworkers and the driver gets reimbursed for driving to and from. so on the way back the driver keeps making comments about gas and how we keep getting low on gas because we have to run the air conditioner so Everytime they would make those comments I would get quiet so we pulled up to the gas station and she gets mad and slams the door and say it would be nice for someone to pitch in on gas? like your being reimbursed for this I’m not was so was I wrong for not giving my coworker gas money. ?????

No. If everyone takes turn and they get reimbursed then there’s no need to pay for gas.
Now if it’s just 1 driver that drives everyone then you should offer to contribute not for gas but for the wear and tear.

The "driver gets reimbursed" so there is no need to pay for the gas. She is just trying to make extra money....
If she makes a big deal then clear it with your manager suggesting you take another form of transportation so you can stop riding with her...
Who has time to deal with slamming doors & the insults?

Tell her you'll chip in for gas if she kicks back some of that sweet sweet reimbursement check. :)
Honestly she probably just conflated this with road trips she may have taken in the past where friends didn't chip in. Most people don't even think about the mileage reimbursement including gas because it is so low, but it does. She probably just was cranky and not seeing the bigger picture. You were in the right.

As long as her reimbursement is more than the gas, you don't need to chip in. She may feel she's only being reimbursed for her time.

They wouldn't be reimbursed right away, it might take weeks. If they are short on cash, then carrying that loss for that long is a burden. But they could have explained this upfront and politely asked for help, or they could have declined to drive at all. You would also have to trust them to reimburse you after they were reimbursed by the company. If you aren't that close, I probably wouldn't have offered to help pay either.

If the driver gets reimbursed I wouldn't pay for the gas either. Those who say otherwise are totally wrong.

Fill in the paper work for reimbursement of the mileage and submit the receipt for the gasoline. If she has an argument about the payment, it'll be between her and the company.

You ALL were wrong - the riders should ALL chip in for gas. It's the least you could do.
