Would you agree that American roads are safer than those of the U.K?

Remember that America is a very big place. Some roads are well taken care of, while some are very worn down. It depends where you are and who takes care of it.

No..... British roads tend to be safer (despite the structural issues) for a number of reasons, including much stricter lane discipline rules + overtaking only allowed on the outer 2 lanes.... also possibly tougher driving tests including a Hazard Perception Test, multiple choice theory test, and finally the practical test....... and also don't allow traffic to turn on a red light in the UK, which is regarded as one of the best things about driving in the US according to UK motoring journalists (but can go horribly wrong if you don't look properly).

Also UK tends to be a bit tougher enforcing speed limits.... get fines + licence points (9 points and kiss it goodbye), while the US seems to only fine people for speeding unless their going 20mph+ over the limit before stronger measures are considered.... but US cops do seem to be much sharper at stopping bad drivers, while in the most recent couple of decades UK cops seem to have maybe got a bit lazy and too reliant on speed cameras while forgetting the other things that more commonly cause mishaps like not waiting at junctions.

Whenever I've watched dashcam footage of US road mishaps, it's nearly always caused by someone either weaving through traffic, or hanging out on the opposite side of the road then chopping across to the exit ramp at the last moment.... or blindly turning in/out of a parking lot across a queue of traffic.

Of course they're not. There is a much higher death rate per 100,000 drivers in the USA. American driving standards are downright poor.

It startes with people being allowed to drive at age 14 1/2 in some states.

Based on the previous published fatalities it is safer to drive in UK than USA.

i have driven many thousands of miles around america ..36 states ..from seattle to san diego ..to key west ..up to buffalo ..up to toronto and across canada ..both ways !..so i have plenty of experience ..americans drive much slower than us ..the big problem is they have zero lane discipline ..they overtake left and right side ..and dont pull back into lane after overtaking ...this is not good for following drivers ..thats their main fault ..their death rate proves it ..close to 100 a day ..5 in uk ...but they are not as bad as india ..or china ...750 a day!!

What roads in the US are you driving on that you think there are no potholes? I mean sure the roads in my area tend to be well marked, but to say there are no potholes makes me wonder where you were driving because I know we have plenty in my area. I can't comment on if they are wide or not as I never went to the UK and can't compare,

"No pot-holes"??? You obviously haven't driven in any of our northern cities during the winter and spring months.

Don't forget that American roads also have American drivers.
