Well lets distinguish two different things. Clinton's erasure of emails was different from destroying her phones.

Destroying the phones was not criminal or improper in any way and wasn't an attempt to hide stuff from the government. It was a security measure meant to keep someone, such as a foreign spy, finding her old phones and getting data off of them.
