Do you have to notify the CA DMV that you’ve repainted your car?

Would I also have to notify my insurance company?

That all depends on what you did. If it is the same color no your A OK BUT if you changed the color you have to have a new registration draw up, the color does not match the ID script!

No. Neither care about the color.

Neither the DMV nor your insurance company cares what color your car is. You can repaint it "passionate purple" if you want to - they don't care. The color of your car doesn't appear on your Registration or on your Title; nor does the color of your car appear anywhere in your insurance policy.

I would if the color was changed. But with some reservations. Meaning there must be a thousand different colors which are called "red" out there. If I repainted a red car with a different red, I would not feel obligated to report it to DMV.

As for insurance- they don't know what color the car is. All they know is the VIN number.

But the police do know what color a car should be. Well at least in my state the title (not the registration form) says what color it is.

DMV, no, the color of your car is not on your Registration.

    Same with your insurance.

    No, it doesn't matter.

No, you don't HAVE to notify anyone, but your local police may question why your vehicle registration shows one color while the car is actually something else.

    I would do both.
