is that amount deducted as soon as I go to the bank and deposit it? or is it already deposited once the check is created.

Yes, they know when you cash it. The amount is deducted as soon as you go to the bank and deposit it.

There checking account works like your checking account. When a check they wrote clears the bank, it shows up in their records as such.

It generally takes a day after you deposit it to clear, maybe longer especially if it's from out of town.
