Why did Israel hold a referendum on replacing Britain in the EU after Brexit when so many British fought to the death to kill nazis?

Israel does a lot of business with Europe. I live a lot of the year in Europe and there's all sorts of Israeli products here, including excellent mangoes.

Furthermore, being part of the EU will give them security as then an attack on them will be an attack on the entire EU.

I doubt it will happen as Europe is extremely antisemitic and Europe also won't want to engage in the Palestinian problem. Europe prefers to sit back, do nothing and complain when others actually do something.

Why did you think for one moment that Israel could join the EUROPEAN Union?

Probably because they want to join the EU and for a country like Israel that isn't very easy. They see an incentive for the EU to allow them in while the UK is leaving because that leaves a hole in their budget. It doesn't hurt the UK in any way, we're leaving anyway.
