Which is more dangerous? 5000volt x 1 amp = 5000watt or 1volt x 5000amp = 5000 watt?

5000 volts can arc across several inches, so if you were to walk by close enough, and be grounded, it could reach out and get you. I worked at a place that had super-high voltages around, and there were very strict rules and everyone had to be trained. If someone threw a 5000 volt wire in the bathtub while you were taking a bath, you'd be fried like chicharrones.

5000 amps at 1 volt wouldn't hurt you in that way. But if it every got shorted with a piece of metal (or a wire) that couldn't handle the amperage it would glow red and melt. It wouldn't hurt you directly but the hot metal could burn you or burn down your house.

It's amps that kill...not volts. A Ban Der Graaf generator has high voltage but low ampage so you can get a shock but not be killed.

Amps are far more dangerous that volts.
