What are the rules for investing in Canada, in particular, foreign investments?

When I was in high school, they informed me that I can only invest around 12 percent outside of Canada, I would like to know if this has changed, or if it is true to begin with?

If you are referring to RRSPs, that limit has been removed, you can be 100% in foreign stocks. I wasn't aware of other types of accounts with investment limits, RHOSPs may have had them but they were phased out decades ago.
