In August we will be married 44 and we've been happy for 44 years. Wouldn't change a thing.

Happily? 23 years.
It takes a lot of maturing to be able to work with our own emotions so that we can get along.
Experts say that it takes about 20 years of marriage, and that the couple starts to get along NOT because the problems have been resolved, but because the couple has decided to just accept each other and stop getting upset.
Assuming the relationship is not too toxic.
That's how it happened to us. We both decided that getting upset was making us unhappy. Now we get along great.
