How many weeks notice to give landlord before moving?

    Read your contract, the law depends on where you are in the world.... generally if you are month to month tenant it could be one full months notice but you need to check local laws and your contract

    Laws vary state to state. Probably around 30 days notice is required.

    Notice should be equal to the rental period, i.e., monthly rent = 30 days, weekly = 7. Some landlords request 60 days notice.

    NB: Legally the notice is effective on the 1st of the month. If issued on the 2nd, it does not take effect until the following 1st. In court, I've had a notice to vacate issued to tenants rendered null and void because it was dated mid-month- illegal in my state (NJ). Had they issued it for the first it would have been valid but only effective on the following 1st, i.e. 30-days from the following 1st of the month.
