Question for the LGBT Community?

First i hope not to insult or make anyone uncomfortable. I support yall, have fun, have love and have luck. However there is one thing that i do find a tiny bit confusing and courious. So i decided to ask, because the way ignorance will continue is if we dont ask questions to learn, right?

Ok so i know LGBT stands for

Lesbian

Gay

Bisexual

Transgender

All cool

But ive also seen LGBTQ on signs posters, posts ect. Standing for

Lesbian

Gay

Bi

Transgender

Queer

Again all cool but...isnt gay and queer the same thing? If not whats the diffrence?

Thank you

Queer just means gay or an umbrella term for non-straight.

I don't know when they added the Q but nobody asked me and I don't recognize it. I'm not sure if it's meant to be queer or questioning. Questioning doesn't belong and "queer" is just another word for not straight, unless you're one of the annoying straight people who keep using it for kinky, and you're banned too.

Queer is an umbrella term for everyone who isn't cisgender and hetero. Gay people are queer but not all queer people are gay. Gays, lesbians, bisexuals, trans people, pansexuals, asexuals, non-binary people etc are all queer although not everyone likes to identify as that or like to use the term.

As already pointed out, Q also means questioning.

Some members prefer the traditional term "queer." And Q can also mean questioning.

The difference is that queer can be offensive and informal while gay isn't.

Some take queer offensive, but it's a term to separate oneself from straights. As said above it's also for the questioning.

    Kindest regards.

Queer is to me just a less specific way of saying not straight.

Also for some Q = questioning.
