Why do Americans call the Base Championships the “ World Series” when there are only American teams playing in the tournament?

At one point there were 2 Canadian teams in Major League Baseball; now there's just the one in Toronto.

Thats like calling the World Cup, the "Universe Cup"

Because people of all nationalities play American baseball.

1. MLB includes one team located in Canada

2. When the championship was named "The World Series" it was the only legitimate professional league in the world, so the title was accurate and appropriate.

3. To this day, there is still no legitimate professional league where teams stand any chance of beating an MLB team (especially not the top teams) in a 7 game series

Sure, there are baseball leagues in other countries, but they are clearly not at the same level of competition as MLB teams. The best players from other countries often come to the MLB and are merely average. A professional team from another country might get lucky and beat an MLB team in one game, but they wouldn't stand a chance in a best-of 7 series.

The only true baseball world series is the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.

Because when it started, the US was the only place playing baseball and the name just hasn't been changed.

Because the best of the best regardless of country of origin, play in MLB.

Canadian teams can also play in the MLB and in the World Series

It just sounds better than American Championship. It's like the Super Bowl. It sounds good. Americans like stuff that sounds good.

Because it was originally sponsored by the New York World newspaper.
