Supply and demand is the answer to every question on why real estate costs what it does. Why is renting an apartment in Detroit not as expensive as renting an apartment in Sacramento?

Because, who would live in Detroit unless they really had no choice, or really, really wanted to live there? Far fewer than want to (or can afford to) live in Sacramento. And fewer people want to (or can afford to) live in Sonoma County than in Sacramento County.

Sac is not a desirable place to live, easy as that. Sac sucks. Sonoma is prettier.
