After using an outdoor smoker is it normal for the propane smell to lightly linger in the backyard? (Only lingering in the backyard)?

    Actually, the best smokers DON'T USE propane. Smokers use wood.

    It is a matter of degree. But when you say 'only' in the backyard, I am getting it is pretty big. And you don't say how long. Check the valve is tight.

    no. that suggests your tank valve isn't tightly closed

    Propane is heavier than air, so it can hang around if the air currents don't dissipate it.

    Sounds like you have a leak somewhere in your system. The human nose can detect extremely small amounts of the additive used to odorize propane.
