I feel so alone?
I have been struggling with depression for a very long time. not to long ago I was hospitalized after having a break down and hurting my self. tonight like many nights before I feel loneliness. I just feel so alone and it hurts, its depressing and I don't know what to do. I just find myself unable to sleep, laying in the dark with a heavy heart and a mind racing with nothing but sadness. how do I pick myself up off the floor when I feel like I can hardly pick my head up?

Let Jesus carry your heavy burden. He loves you. Find someone you trust to talk to. If you do not have anyone go to a local church and talk to a pastor about how you feel. They can offer prayer, advice, and counseling.
Matthew 11:28-29 King James Version (KJV)
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

well, with your kind permission , I humbly guess you're young enough to be my daughter- to begin with...
enough for your words here to shake and thrill my heart and soul.
It sounds to me you've got to stay on psychiatric treatment and follow - up- on one hand.
on the other hand- inasmuch as possible - you've got to strive to go out, to normally as possible socialize....yes....

Maybe this will cheer you up.

Sorry you're feeling this way. It's hard. Try to socialize as much as possible, read books, or watch some scientific videos, that will enrich your inner knowledge. Socialize more! Communication really helps!

We are all alone unless we choose not to be. Grow up and put yourself out there instead of sitting back and crying about the predictable outcomes of your own poor choices.

I work with women in shelters & prisons in the Midwest (USA). There are lots of causes. You really did not provide enough history, patterns or examples. BPD, C-PTSD, PTSD and other things can do this. These are much more common in women with onset typically being 18-24. If you are an "HSP" these almost always make "us" (you) more empathic.
If you are gifted/clairvoyant this can make everything 1000 times more difficult. Often attracting negative people/energy (not the magical kind). But it increases intensity of emotion as if your body was covered in 3rd degree burns to the soul. You find people seem to want to exploit or often "use" you. This is the least common but initially its been described as drowning in emotion while feeling an internal pressure (energy) pushing out to explode.
Cutting/NSSI (non-suicidal self-injury) as punishment, way to feel alive, using pain to cover internal pain or a few other reasons. Some reasons make sense. Sometimes it is just necessary to feel, something - anything. That aside cutting is not "common" though it is understood and happens in all of the above examples I gave.
You pick your head up by talking to someone who understands all these things, not just one or two of them. All therapy begins with talking, you do not need a "therapist". Just someone whose not a best friend, there is too much emotion and bias with friends. Someone who listens, understands and will support. Someone who will push or pull when needed - even when you don't want it. CBT, DBT, ACT and many other things are good.
It really depends whats going on. What works for you won't work for him or her. You must do whatever works for you and makes you feel better. Finally this can often be negative people ('energy') - "External Influencers". People suck, they often manipulate, exploit or push us away. It is not good or healthy. Find a few good random friends.

When I feel that bad I write a list on a piece of paper of all the things I need to do. Make bed, walk, cook lunch, clean teeth etc. Then just work through the list. I usually give myself free time for 30mins after completing a task. The distraction and the activity helps somehow. Also get out in nature at a park or forest or stream and listen carefully to the sounds of Nature and Nature will help to heal you.

Human minds are so complex that even scientists don't fully understand it yet, so there's no 'one' solution to majority of mental health problems. Most psychiatrist will prescribe you with antidepressants, and it might do wonders for some people, but there's still risk of bad side effects, being ineffective, or even worsen your symptoms, which is why I consider it a last resort. Try cognitive behavioral therapy, talk therapy, or exposure therapy before taking any medications.
If going to therapy isn't your thing, you should start practicing radical acceptance (there's many great books and articles about this.) Let go of ideas and attachment of what you think your life needs to be in order for you to be happy. Especially let go of any self-hatred or guilt that might result from what you feel you could've done differently. Emotional freedom technique is a good way of breaking the pattern of self-destructive coping mechanisms, it involves saying "Even though (your current problem), I love and accept myself." This reminds yourself that, deep down, you truly do care about your well being. There's a lot we can't control about life, but try to focus on the things you can.
