how do you meet new friends as an older person, i wonder if everyone things i'm weird if i want to get to know them?

Being old has its benefits. When in a group of strangers, just talk. Someone will listen and if kind enough, converse with you.

It's not weird, at least from where I am where everyone has a grandpa or grandma to take care of. We don't do retirement homes here. We take care of our oldies.

Find a hobby that would require you to be around people your age where you see them regularly. That's still no guarantee that you will make friends you just have to let it happen on it's on if it's ever going to happen. Trying to make friends is what will make you seem weird. You cannot forge a friendship.

Yes just be cool and let it happen, when you look for friends you put yourself in a situation to be taken advantage of or attract people who are not genuine that you really cannot relate to which will make both of you feel awkward. You know the old saying "True friends are nothing you can just find around the corner" Friendship cannot be treated like something on your to do list.
