Please talk with a board-certified ob/gyn about the pain level with the pap smear. For those with pain or significant discomfort during a pain smear, internal exam, and/or while utilizing tampons, for instance, please do talk with a board-certified ob/gyn and/or board-certified urologist.

Some females may have symptoms of vulvodynia (pain in the vulva region). Please, however, do *not* try to provide a self-diagnosis or self-treatment, and instead talk with a licensed physician.

The odds of cervical cancer in a 21 year old virgin are pretty much nil.

And while the exam itself should be painless, if you've never had sex, the speculum could certainly be.

Talk honestly with your doctor about when you might really need to begin screening, and ways to reduce the discomfort. (Did she know you had never had sex? Was she using the smallest speculum?)

if you are a virgin then you would not be given a pap smear. Did you tell the staff.

It is not supposed to hurt, but I can see how it would if you've never really had anything up there. It feels like pressure for me, but you could have an issue. The doctor should've known what to do and should've handled it accordingly. You need to go back for another appointment and let the doctor know how bad it hurts
