Humming birds have a very high metabolism and are in constant motion, never resting anywhere, whether their wings are flapping or not. I have only seen a few humming birds who actually sat on a branch to rest as they are constantly flitting about. They are tiny birds, so they need only small amounts of food at once, but they use a lot of energy flapping their wings, so they frequently stop for just a few seconds to fuel up.

Make the water sweeter and they might stay longer. Add RED BULL and watch them fly sideways and go nuts.
Always experimenting...with beer they are looking for a couch and TV...and a game with the cat.

We have a feeder right outside our window. That is the norm with them. Our feeder had four holes. They will bop from one to the other. Staying 5 seconds or less at each
