Why do many atheists who declare they 'merely have a lack of belief go around maintaining positive assertions like "There is no God", ..?

Why does it bother you so much? There is no proof that any god exists - whether I lack belief in a god or positively assert there is no god makes not one little bit of difference.

Those that say there is a god must prove their claims. The rest of us will just go about our lives.

Most DON'T just claim LACK of belief. Arrogance doesn't allow any lack.

    Might be a defect?

Tremendous interest in going against God and Christians...yet never Allah, never Islam.

    Does that make sense?

Bothers me too. I never could understand the posture of evangelical atheists.

    You seem ignorant of much.

Some of us don't waste time arguing petty details. Or stupid fallacies.

I make the claim there is no god, I have plenty of practical evidenc to back this claim, but there always the dimwit Christian who says you can't know anything for sure, without knowing everything.. As if the smallest, improbable, sliver of a chance is an automatic win for their faith.

It's a shortcut. Like saying there are no leprechauns. No reason to rattle on about the reasons for disbelief of ridiculous imaginary beings and realms.

    "There is no God",

    is just shorthand for

    "There is no God, evident."

    Feel free to point out

    any evident God

    they have missed.

I don't think you know what "positive assertion" means. "There is no god" is not a positive assertion.

Because if you don't believe something, then it's not there.
