Cricket ranks first in fan interest in summer, ahead of swimming and Aussie Rules football, but footbal is #1 in winter, and the AFL Grand Final is generally one of the highest ranked shows on television every year. 6.5 million watched the 2016 final, while top drawing cricket matches have drawn in the 2 - 4 million range.
But overall, more average citizens participate in organized cricket than in Australian football. Cricket is still considered #1.
