Do see your GP to get a diagnosis. If you're moderately or severely depresed medication is a possibility but it's not a miracle cure and side effects frequently include weight gain, irritability, erectile dysfunction and insomnia. A quick and simple way to get on top of your apathy is to self refer for cognitive behavioural therapy through IAPT which only takes about 6 sessions and is highly effective; you don't even need to see your doctor. Alternatively your GP can refer you for online CBT or he can prescribe you a self help book which you borrow from your local library (you don't need a library card). Self taught CBT has been proven to be even more effective than CBT taught by a mental health professional.

you an go to your gp without having to go to a therapist, which you might not even necessarily need anyway. Going to a gp about mental health isn't conditional on also seeing a therapist, that's your choice. I would recommend going to your gp and talking about your issues with them, they should make it a lot more straight forward than people advising you over the internet, and more human. Hoping you solve your problems and feel better :)
