Do I really want to have a baby?

This is a bizarre question/scenario, I know.

I have bipolar disorder and my husband and I have been talking about having a baby for about a year. Up until recently I’ve been fairly hesitant because of the whole BD and other factors like work, money, etc. Over the last few months I finally got my BD under control with a new medication, but in the first couple weeks that medication triggered a “hypomanic” episode where I felt like I could conquer the world. Now I’ve stabilized and I feel great. And all of a sudden like a light switch, I’m seriously into the idea of having a baby.

With BD it’s so hard to trust my emotions because of all the ups and downs. Do I really feel this way or am I manic again? Medication or not mood swings still happen... any thoughts?

You should ask your doctor these questions, not complete strangers on the internet.

do you really want to pass your defective genes to another generation ? can you handle a kid with BD ? what emotional hell would the kid live in ? do you have the $ 200,000 it takes to raise a kid from 0 to 18 ?
