So my new hp laptop when I go to shut it down the activity light stays on forever but the screen turns off?
I always have to force shut down with the power button then turn back on and do a regular shut which only works after the force shutdown how do I fix this so it always shuts down without having to force shutdown the laptop?

If it's plugged to the wall socket, it's merely recharging the battery.
I'm not sure with HP but with Dell, as soon as the battery is fully charged, the laptop's lights all go off. With Lenovo, as long as it's plugged in, even if the battery is 100% charged, one light stays on. These are with the laptops off but connected to the adapter/charger which in turn is plugged to the wall socket.
