Alas, we're not all born with the glamorous gene. You could put me in a full penguin suit and I'd still look like a street urchin begging change.
The key is to not give a crap. I grew out of the whole party life thing when I was in my early 20s which meant I no longer needed to stress over preening.
Not being glamorous is hardly grounds for not spending time with friends. Don't let your own self-doubts keep you from doing that. If your friends insist you tart up to be seen with them, then I'd be questioning if they are really all that great as friends.
