I use smartphone as wifi hotspot, after some hours it switches to 3G and needs to be rebooted before it works properly again, what do?

I KNOW: You're not supposed to use your phone as wifi hotspot 24/7 and I don't care.

Smartphones are not meant to be used as wifi routers, thereby using them as such causes them to start malfunctioning until you reboot them. One thing that goes wrong is that it no longer uses 4G, and speeds go down to mere 300 kbps, not 100 mbps.

Currently the only solution I have thought of is alarm clock every 4 hrs to remind me to reboot my smartphone.

I would want to have a better system. E.g. an app that notifies me whenever switch from 4g to 3g occurs. Or some kind of speed test program on my computer screen that tests the internet speed every 15 mins and shows the latest results, so I can see when the speed has dropped to 300kbps.

I just bought a TP product to boost (and acquire) decent signal when we travel. (Go read Wirecutter.) Functions as various devices, deoending how you set it up to work for you. Yes, hotspot is one of them - and then your phone is free to be a phone again. For under $50, a whole pile of your problems at home and when traveling, are made better. You can connect this in different mode and settings thru their phone app. No need to get in and out with a laptop (which I no longer take with me - all I need is linked to my phone from DT programs at home.

You could see if your wireless provider also supports dedicated hotspot devices, or find a provider that does.
