I think we can keep people healthy and alive while they're here so that they arrive home in stable condition if they are to be deported. If an American citizen were in, say, the UK illegally and ended up at a hospital, we as Americans would expect that American not to be denied care and allowed to die simply because his or her visa had expired or whatever.
