It is a different thing - and a different price.

All depends what you expect from it.

    Embelton is just a brand.

As a pro handyman I'm of the opinion that genuine hardwood flooring is better than bamboo, which is better than engineered hardwood flooring, which is better than laminate, which is better than nothing.

Wait, I missed one: an oiled, tamped dirt floor feels great underfoot in warm climates. That's better than laminate.

Laminate goes down, looks great on the first day, looks pretty good the first five years, and then begins to look progressively worse until you finally get sick of it and tear it out.

Hardwood looks great the first day, looks great the first five years, looks pretty good the next 45 years, and then you sand it, refinish it, and walk on it for another 50 years without thinking about it.

Other products like engineered hardwood - essentially a fancy word for really attractive plywood - are really intended to let you refloor your place after you tear out the laminate, but without having to go around and trim up all the doors.

Use the right product the first time. Even if it costs 10 times as much, you get more value per dollar with genuine hardwood floors.

It's like the difference between the Mona Lisa, and a poster of the Mona Lisa. One is just a printed copy of the original.
