Any advice on how to deal with a family member getting cancer?

These people are sugar coating it. It will be hard to deal with the loss of your mother but you can find comfort in the fact that she will be sent into the black abyss. No hate, fear, happiness or love will find its way to her again. The best thing for you to do is to start preparing a eulogy. She won't get through this, you may go broke but hey, atleast you get to live

It's hard to give advice without knowing more about the situation. How old is she? How old are you? (Are you are 50 year old adult and your mother is 80? Are you 15 and your mother is 40?)

How advanced is the cancer? (Stage 4 cancer has a poor prognisis, localized cancer has a pretty good one.) What treatments will she be doing?

In general, be supportive and loving but don't hover. Offer what help you can, whether that means doing more housework or taking her to appointments.

Maybe think that she's still the same person as she was before the diagnosis and that now that they have worked out what's wrong, the doctors can work on that without a load of second-guessing any more. Quite a lot can be done using Argon plasma to help treat the lesions, various tablets can be given to reduce the severity of the symptoms.
