Is New Orleans nice to visit? Or is just a polluted city full of drunk people? Drove by but didn't really check it out, wanted to think?

it doesnt flood all the time, but sounds like you are not interested in that city, so dont go.  It has a long french-creole history; but if you aren't interested in history, great food, etc not for you. There are river cruises, a really fabulous WWII museum, the garden district for architectural tours, ghost walks, shopping and funky people watching. I find it very sensory.

I was in New Orleans a bit more than a month ago. It's going to be hot and humid if you go in the summer, so dress accordingly. The weather cooperated for us, thank goodness. 

If you avoid Bourbon Street in the French Quarter, you'll avoid most of the idiot drunks. From what I could tell, Canal Street is the dividing line between the French Quarter and the Central Business District, (my boyfriend found Canal a bit skeezy and did everything to avoid walking on it). 

There's a World War II museum south of the Central Business District that's really a complex of several buildings. You could easily spend all day there. There are numerous walking tours and bus tours. There's Mardi Gras World, which is where they keep all the floats and props. There's also a Mardi Gras Museum of Costumes and Culture where you can see costumes from parades past. Skip the Voodoo Museum, as it's two rooms of stuff and you can barely move because it's so small. There's also the pharmacy museum. There are "tours" (really a lecture in the one main room) four days a week.You can also take a riverboat cruise.We're also both veg and had little trouble finding food to eat. Nothing was truly spectacular, but we ate well. On our last night there, we went to a Thai place in Faubourg-Marigny and saw that the guy who was our tour guide for the bus tour was eating there. I figure of the locals eat there, it's a good place, and the food was pretty good.We were there for six days and five nights and kept pretty busy. We also did a lot of walking, but as I'm a city gal and therefore used to walking, that wasn't too much of a problem.

Just got back from NOLA. It's a nice place to visit. We had a couple young kids. There was no problems with "drunk people". It wasn't the cleanest town, but everyone was very friendly.

Great food, very good music. It does not flood all the time. Don't make stuff up.

It's mostly blacks.

It's a great and fun city.
