The last illustrated book I read is The Mirage Factory, by Gary Krist. Black and white pictures at the heads of chapters. It's about three people who were responsible for three things that "grew" Low Angeles into a megacity: William Muholland (water aquaducts and dams); D.W. Griffith (the multi-reel blockbuster movie) and Aimee Semple McPherson (evangelism by radio, newsreel and spectacle). The quality of the photos are good, but the paper they are printed on is the same woodpulp as the textbook. It won't last long before it browns.

I'm reading an interesting book about The Women of the Raj. It has old black and white photographs of India and the lives of the wives of the adminstrators, the army officers, etc.

There are no pictures in any of the books I have read for the last 50 years.

EDIT to add: OK, of course there were photographs and sketches in the non-fiction books I've read.

  • The Warehouse by Rob Hart

It has yet to pay off on the premise.

The only picture is the cover, which is some rather generic art. In retrospect, it reminds me of an obscure novel, The Deep byJohn Crowley, which I have fond memories of reading in the 70s.

I'm almost halfway through The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson.

It has some illustrations like the map of the Shattered Pains and of a Chasmfiend beast.

I'm reading "The Soul of an Octopus" by Sy Montgomery.

It's non-fiction and there are a few photos of some of the octopuses she worked with in the centre of the book.

    It's an amazing read.
