The reviews are right. Joker is just plain incredible. I don't know why you disliked the trailers, but I doubt you'll dislike the movie itself.

There are references to the Wayne family, and the story takes place in Gotham. Other than that there is nothing that says "Joker" in this guy.
He's a loser, no talent, no style. And his mental meltdown didn't bring it out.

It's about a guy who pities himself and takes it out on a late-night talk show host. The self-pity does get boring at times.
