Yes. So long as the individual behaves as would a cisgender person of the same orientation. I would discharge an employee for grandstanding or trying to convince a customer that it's trans gender is legitimate and must be accepted.

Yes, it is absolutely wrong to fire someone for their sexual orientation or gender identity because those inborn traits of the individuals have zero bearing whatsoever on their qualifications to do their job or the quality which they put into doing their job. It's as stupid and wrong as firing someone for the color of their skin or hair. Such physical traits have no bearing on their ability to do their job.

In many modern countries it is now illegal to fire someone because of their sexuality. As long as the person dresses appropriately for the job and acts appropriately the company is not allowed to discriminate on grounds of sexuality. Generally though if the authorities question bosses about people they refused to employ because they were gay or transgender the bosses come up with some other excuse to say why they no longer employ them.

"Do you think it's wrong for a business to fire someone simply for being gay or transgender?"

    Without a doubt, it's wrong.

American has ALREADY said in the 1964 civil rights act, that discrimination against another person because of who they are, is wrong and illegal, as spelled out in the 1964 civil rights act.

Public sector discrimination is NOT a christian value, irregardless of what evangelicals claim.

Public sector discrimination in the name of Christ, IS SIN, as it is blasphemy.

If society was to allow ""religious liberties"" as a legal defence to public sector non-discrimination laws in the public sector against the lgbt, what other group of alleged sinner might the so called good christians discriminate against next, single parents, unwed parents, unwed couples, divorced and remarried couples, those on birth control, mixed race couples, anyone remember segregation and jim crow those were justified in their day by conservative christians, it was the 1964 civil rights act that legally ended that, conservative christians have no right to carve out exceptions against ANY GROUP of people that they have turn against in THEIR church.

ALL parts of the LGBT are classic examples of the textualist reading/meaning of sex in the 1964 civil rights act, AND sex-stereotyping laws in the 1964 civil rights act.

Yes, I think it is wrong. BUT...

... it is NOT illegal, depending where you are. There are no overarching protections at the federal level for LGBT employees, and the conservative Senate has refused to approve the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. That leaves anti-discrimination laws up to the states creating a patchwork of opposing rules: Illegal to fire LGBT in California, Legal to fire LGBT in Arizona, etc.

Moreover, religious institutions like schools are often exempt from these laws, resulting in a LGBT employee being fired as a violation of their contract.

The US Supreme Court has heard arguments this week on LGBT employment. Their decision will probably be announced next spring.

If they are waiters, florists, directors, designers or some other gay profession it would be silly to fire them.

It depends on the business and the job. But if the person was qualified for the job before the "reveal", it would be stupid to fire them on principle alone, just like turning away business for the same reason. But do you really want to work for an outfit like that?

It is illegal to do so. If that is the reason someone is fired, you can sue them. Get your Union to help, that is what you pay Union dues for. If you are not in your Union, you will have to organise the law suit yourself but you would still win.
