My basketball team sucks?

I enjoy basketball on and off the court and we are doing a big 3 v 3 thing in our school. The teacher assigned me with my best friends, which I am not mad about. I love them to infinity and beyond, but are really unskilled in basketball. Once I have to guard 3 people because they just follow them around for a second then rooted back to the ground. They even let the slowest guys slip past on defense. On offense, I passed to them out of kindness, but they just dribble wildly until the opponent forced them out. They are good people and I want to help them improve.
