Is crime in the US really lower today then it was 30 years ago?

I know that experts would like to think so. How do they come to that conclusion and do they include cyber crime.

Yes and no. Per capita the rates are lower, but because there are more people than there were years ago, there is more total crimes.

Most cities are reporting lower crime rates but that can't be taken at face value. Crime has never been lower in California (since our legislature basic legalized most lower level crimes). In many cases crime is booming and it's just the arrests for same that are down.

The claim is VIOLENT crime has decreased. The SAME sources openly claim cyber crime and ID fraud have increased.

    they consider primarily violent crimes

but also all crimes (without analyzing specifically cyber crime, which of course has grown)

    and

only crimes reported (naturally, since they don't know about unreported crimes).
