What do all criminals want in any country, your money, your phone, your credit cards (especially contactless!).
England is pretty safe but like anywhere you stay safest by not flaunting your possessions in front of people who look dodgy., ie gangs of youths, by keeping to well lit areas at night and if possible by walking with a group of friends. At least you won't get shot in England as most people haven't got guns, unlike the ex cowboy mentality in USA!
