If people ever had vision once before in their Life, then some of the things they saw and identified would remain within their brain after going blind. If they were born blind then they have to guess even what color is like. It is said that when one does not have one sense, such as sight, another sense becomes stronger. So perhaps the mind and body try to compensate, in some way.

People who could once see, and went blind, still see in dreams. People who have never had vision have no idea of what it's like.
I read an article a few years ago about people who lost their sight in infancy or toddlerhood, who could once see but have totally forgotten what it's like. Some of these people have had their vision restored, and it really messed them up! They couldn't interpret what they saw, and it frightened them and made them crazy, because their brains have forgotten how to interpret sight. For instance, we know that things look small farther away, but these people hadn't learned that yet. So when someone walks toward them, it looks to them like the person is GROWING.
